1911 Sovereign & Half Sovereign Set
In 2011, the Royal Mint have produced a two-coin set featuring a 1911 London Mint sovereign and half sovereign. Here at Chard, we can offer a similar set for sale, however with our set you have a choice of grades and also a choice of mintmarks. The sets are offered for sale as a London Mint but if you wish you can have 'our choice' of mintmark and you may receive a better grade coin.
Although George V aceeded to the throne on May 6th 1910, on the death of his father Edward VII, all British coins dated 1910 continued to use Edward's portrait, and 1911 was the first year in which coins were issued with George's portrait. 1911 was also his coronation year.
We keep 1911 sovereigns in stock for immediate delivery. We try to maintain a stock of all dates of gold sovereigns, including 1911.
Fortunately, 1911 was a plentiful year for sovereigns, and this is reflected in the reasonable prices and excellent grades we can offer.
Mints
In 1911, sovereigns were issued at the Royal Mint, London, and at Melbourne, Perth and Sydney in Australia, and also Ottawa in Canada. Find out more on our Mints & Mintmarks page.

Prices & Availability
According to the Royal Mint's Website*:
Struck during the reign of George V, both coins feature the King's portrait by Bertram Mackennal combined with the classically beautiful St George and dragon created by Benedetto Pistrucci for the original modern sovereign. Housed in a Royal Mint deluxe display case, the two coins come complete with a Certificate of Authenticity testifying to the fact that both are guaranteed to be in very fine condition or better.
As we wrote this, the Royal Mint's latest price on its 1911 Sovereign & Half Sovereign Set was £670!* We should point out, in mitigation, that the Mint's collection does come in a quite impressive wooden box, with each coin in its own capsule, and with an informative booklet / certificate. At a pinch, the presentation might be worth as much as £50, but on the negative side we have the advantage of having seen a number of the Royal Mint's sets, so we know their typical grades. Some of their coins would not even make it into our lowest grade / price. Otherwise their sets are closest to our lowest graded set.
