eBay Copyright Thieves & Crooks Named and Shamed
It's dishonest to copy photographs, and misleading to buyers.

day8263 Using Copied Sovereign Images on eBay
eBay seller day8263 of SWINDON, Wiltshire, United Kingdom, not only stole our 1957 Elizabeth II Uncirculated Sovereign Reverse image without permission, but failed to tell buyers his coin was not the same coin.

High eBay Feedback is No Guarantee of Integrity or Honesty

1957 QE2 FULL GOLD SOVEREIGN GREAT CONDITION
1957 QUEEN ELIZABETH II
FULL GOLD SOVEREIGN
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1952 upon the death of her father George VI and the first coins of her reign were struck in 1953. The very first sovereign struck was dated 1953 but only exists in a very rare proof coin, however except for the omission of the words BRITT.OMN the design remained the same for the first officially release sovereign that of 1957. Mary Gillicks portrait design also known as the pre-decimal head sovereign was produced from 1957-1959 and 1962-1968, 1960-61 do not exist. The 1957 has a finer edge milling often referred to as graining and to simplify means that it has more milling then 1958 onwards. The reverse design is that of the classic St George & Dragon first seen on the very first modern day sovereign dated 1817 by Benedetto Pistrucci.
1957 Queen Elizabeth II Full Gold Sovereign
All sovereigns contain 0.2354 oz of gold and are 916/1000 fineness (22.6ct), Weight 7.98 grams

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole our high quality images of a mint condition 1957 Elizabeth II Uncirculated Sovereign, he or she failed to state that the coin shown in the photographs was not the same coin he was selling.

Price
The seller was asking a starting price of 180 for this listing.
Whatever the items "sell" for, after eBay's greedy 10% selling fees, and possible PayPal charges, the crook would have been much better off selling the coins to us, instead of stealing our photographs.
He relisted his item, still as a proof, but changed it at some stage by removing the claim to be a proof, although maintaining it was "very rare" and "one of the most sought after" (the mintage was over 30 million, just for the 1911 London Mint). We also note it sold for 200, so after eBay selling fees of 10%, he will have received less than 180 nett; with PayPal fees that could drop to about 170.

Bank of England Robbed
We thought we would have a quick look at the other items that day8263 was offering. One was a:
"1911 ROYAL MINT ST GEORGE AND THE DRAGON GEORGE V SOLID 22K GOLD PROOF FULL SOVEREIGN COIN VERY RARE"
Apart from wondering how he knew his 1911 sovereign to be a proof, and whether he was knowledgeable enough to know the difference, we looked closely at this photograph to see whether we could discern what it actually was. As his image was only 119 x 121 pixels, we also wondered why he had chosen to use such a small photograph. The usual answer of course is the seller has used Google Images, and copied the small thumbnail image provided by Google, rather than view and use the full sized original image. It is surprising how many people are not bright enough to figure this out.
We did our own Google Image search, and discovered, not surprisingly, that day8263 had stolen this photo as well, but this time had stolen it from the Bank of England!
Is this still punishable by hanging? If so, we would like to book a ringside seat. (Note to pacifists, we don't really mean this, it's just our gallows sense of humour). We thought it was worth reproducing day8263's 1911 Proof Sovereign listing for your entertainment.

Victoria Museum Robbed
Day8263's third coin item listed was a:
"22CT GOLD 1901 VICTORIA HALF SOVEREIGN COIN"
stolen from "Museum Victoria", in Melbourne Australia.
This photograph was much darker than the other two.

Different Photograph Styles
One thing we have noticed and learnt over a period of time, is to look at all of a seller's eBay listings. If they are all similar then there is a good chance he has used all his own photographs. If there is a great variety of "styles", then this provides a strong clue that the vendor has stolen his photographs from a wide range of different sources.
We believe this is quite a useful fraud prevention tool.
