eBay Copyright Thieves & Crooks Named and Shamed
It's dishonest to copy photographs, and misleading to buyers.

lizzie2355 Using Copied Sovereign Images on eBay
eBay seller lizzie2355 of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, not only stole the 1821 George IV Sovereign Photographs belonging to CNG without permission to sell her sovereigns, but conveniently omitted to mention that the photos were of her actual coins, thereby deceiving all potential buyers.

High eBay Feedback is No Guarantee of Integrity or Honesty

1821 george 1111 full gold sovereign
My father is having a further clear out. this is a fine coin featuring the large laureate head of King George 1111. designed by Benaletto (sic) Pistrucci. and St george and the dragon on the reverse, The date is 1921 (sic) and is 22carat gold , weighs 7.98 grm, I consider it to be in very good condition for its age , the head looks almost perfect while the tail is just slightly worn
Only Uk bidders please using pay pal (sic) , no time wasters , I will despatch as soon as payment is recieved (sic) , please read my feedback

On 01-Apr-10 at 22:53:28 BST, seller added the following information:
MY CAMERA IS USELESS SO THE PHOTO IS JUST A COPY OF WHAT THE COIN LOOKS LIKE, YOU WILL HAVE TO TRUST ME ON THIS AND IF NOT SATISFIRED (sic) I WILL RETURN,i (sic) AM TRYING TO BORROW A CAMERA

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller did not steal our photographs, they belong to Classical Numismatic Group of the USA (CNG), who stipulate that they can only be used with a proper credit. She used them in her eBay auctions to try to sell her own sovereign without saying it was not the same coin. Anyone viewing the photographs would expect them to be the same, near perfect condition coin, "airbrushed" to make them look like supermodels.
In addition, this stupid ignorant crook stated "I consider it to be in very good condition for its age , the head looks almost perfect while the tail is just slightly worn", which would lead any normal person into thinking that the photographs shown were the vendor's own photos of the actual coin she was selling.
It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar coin, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

Price
The seller was asking a starting price of 100, which is actually quite silly, as it costs more than a 0.99 start, and provides no real price protection. We would pay over 160 just for its scrap gold content.

Watch List
We will place this eBay member on our copyright watch list, as it can only be by chance that she used CNG's photos and not ours, at least on this occasion.

Selling Gold Sovereigns & Other Coins on eBay
We point out that sellers may often get more money, for less effort, by selling to a specialised dealer, such as us, rather than via eBay.
