The Westminster Collection 'Easy Pay' System
Recently, we became aware of The Westminster Collection’s ‘easy pay’ system.  They offer customers the chance to purchase certain products, with an easy interest-free payment plan.  At first, this sounds brilliant. How nice of them! Sometimes there is something you want to buy and just can’t quite afford it, it’s nice to know you can spread the payment and not be subject to high interest rates.  However, when you see that they are charging £645.00 for a sovereign, it is suddenly not such a good idea!

Easy and Affordable?
If you were to purchase this offer, you would receive one of the following dates 1974, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 or 1982. We are currently charging £298.00* for one of these years, and you would get to pick which one you prefer! Our price is based upon a 15% premium and a £10 surcharge, but with the ‘offer’ from The Westminster Collection you would be paying a 160% premium!

Five Equally Extortionate Payments
They claim that they are giving you a good deal, allowing you to use their easy pay system by paying a deposit of £129.00 and then 4 interest free payments of £129.00. However, if you were to purchase the sovereign from us, you would simply pay one payment of £298.00* and no more payments, but if you did decide you want to spend £596.00* then we would provide you with 2 sovereigns.

The Westminster Collection are notoriously overpriced. We would not advise anyone to purchase from them for this reason alone. We have many customers who come to sell their hard-earned collections, or family who have inherited them and they are always bitterly disappointed and angry that they have lost so much money.

Is 'Easy Pay' Worth It?
No matter what you have paid for a sovereign, we will still pay the same amount if you come to sell to us, we would currently be paying £239.00* to purchase a sovereign from the secondary market.  If you were to purchase the sovereign from us then you would need the spot price of gold to increase by £259.00* per troy ounce to break even on your purchase (but please note that we would not advise you to select a year for investment purposes, we would advise you to purchase a bullion sovereigns, where we would select the years, allowing us to sell them at much lower premiums, starting from 10%, one of which would cost £275.00* meaning you would need the spot price of gold to increase by £157.00* per troy ounce to break even). If you purchased your coin from The Westminster Collection you would need the spot price of gold to increase by a whopping £1795.00* per troy ounce in order to break even on your purchase! From these figures it is easy to see why their customers are so devastated when they come to sell their purchases on, they almost always make a loss (in fact we would go as far as to say they always make a loss, but just in case one lucky person out there managed to break even or, however unlikely it is, made a profit, we will say almost).

Our Advice
The point of investing is to hope that you will eventually make money. As we stated earlier, we would not recommend choosing a dated year, but even if you wanted to purchase it as a gift and the year was sentimental, you still want to know you could still make a profit. As with all investments, nothing is certain, and there is always the chance of making a loss, but by purchasing from The Westminster Collection, you are almost guaranteeing that you will make a loss, defeating the point of actually investing to begin with.

Ultimately, the message we want to get across here is that the easy pay option is actually to avoid The Westminster Collection and their ridiculously high mark ups and purchase from us instead, saving a great deal of money.
