1872 Gold Sovereign Victoria Young Head Shield
The Melbourne Mint started striking sovereigns in this year. Australian shield sovereigns carry an 'S' or 'M' mintmark below the wreath on the reverse, in place of the die number usually found on London Mint shield reverse sovereigns.
