The Last Sovereigns
Not every date exists for gold sovereigns. The London mint virtually stopped producing sovereigns after 1916, except for 1925. From 1917, the branch mints continued to issue most of the sovereign production. In 1927 a total of three mints struck sovereigns, Melbourne and Perth in Australia, and Pretoria mint South Africa.
The Perth Mint sovereigns of 1927 are distinctly scarcer than their mintage figure would indicate.

* Krause World Coins states a mintage of 310,000; but also adds "None known", it is highly likely that any sovereigns stuck at Melbourne during the calendar year 1927 were dated 1926 or 1928, as the mintages reported by mints is often for the year, and does not indicate that all, or any, coins struck that year were dated the same year.
