2013 Gold Sovereigns - St. George & Dragon Design
We receive regular deliveries of the 2013 bullion sovereigns but unfortunately the proof coins are a limited supply, and we are struggling to get any more. When they are gone, they are gone!
Buying from Chard
Not only can we guarantee that our prices for both the proof and uncirculated coins are cheaper than The Royal Mint's but buying from us you also get the benefit of buying from expert professional numismatists who have been in the business for over 40 years. While we appreciate the Royal Mint have existed for longer, we know more about sovereigns and half sovereigns than they do!
2013 Sovereign Prices
As always we can offer you savings on the 2013 sovereign products when compared the official release price. We know this to be £20 on the proof and we can only apologise that this is not more of a substantial saving. In the past The Royal Mint has offered other coin dealers a significant discount on their retail price. Unfortunately over the past couple of years they have reduced this discount, almost as if they are trying to squeeze others out of the market...
Fortunately the discount they are offering on the bullion / uncirculated 2013 sovereign is considerably more and so we are able to pass this saving on to you. At the time of writing this saving was £94 based on gold at £1087 per troy ounce and our premium of 11.5% on a single coin, and as The Royal Mint do not offer quantity discounts this saving increases to £109 per coin on a quantity of 1000 - that's an amazing £109,000 saving, or an additional 403 coins!
At our latest update of this page, July 2014, we noticed that two of our competitiors are offering the 2013 Gold Proof Sovereing for less than we are selling them for but both are conveniently out of stock. One of them is The Royal Mint who are offering a 2013 Gold Proof Sovereign for £390. Please note that when we have sold out of our stock we will be offering them for £375! ;-)
2013 Sovereign Packaging
According to The Royal Mint's Bullion Manager, Nick Bowkett on his blog post of 8th November 2012 the packaging of the 2013 bullion products, including the sovereign, silver Britannia and gold Britannia was to change. He advised that they would now be supplied in tubes, as opposed to the sheets used previously. We received our first few deliveries in sheets - perhaps while they finished off their stock but we can confirm that all of the bullion / uncirculated products are now being supplied in tubes.
On The Royal Mint's website you can purchase single coins in a box with an information card however, they charge you £380 for the privilege. If you would like a box for your coin we can supply these at an additional £2 - these can be added at checkout.
Issue Limits
The Royal Mint states that the issue limit for the Brilliant Uncirculated Sovereign is 15,000 but we do not know the issue limit for the bullion version yet - it may be just whenever they decide to stop minting them.
The issue limit for the proof sovereign is 7,500.
Uncirculated Sovereign
Our current uncirculated coins are presented in sheets.
