Gold Proof Sovereign - New Obverse

The proof version of the 2016 full sovereign features a new obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, to celebrate her 90th Birthday. It was designed by the artist, James Butler, and previosly appeared on the 2015 Longest Reigning Monarch coins.

The uncirculated coins will feature the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. This is the first time the portrait has been used on the uncirculated sovereigns, having been featured on the 2015 proof sovereign.

The reverse features the famous St George and the dragon design, by Benedetto Pistrucci.

Proof Sovereigns

We have always been able to offer the proof sovereign at significant discount to The Royal Mint (and many of our competitors) as we are happy to pass any trade discount on to our customers. In recent years the trade discount has been reduced and The Royal Mint's selling terms are becoming more and more one-sided.

Issue Limits

The mintage figure for the 2016 proof sovereigns is 9,675. There are 7,500 issued in the individual presentation boxes.

Uncirculated Sovereigns - Fifth Portrait

The 2016 uncirculated sovereign will not feature this special obverse. Instead, they will feature the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The coins are available here.

Deliveries

We despatch most of our orders within 24 hours (if the coins are in stock), although we do reserve the right to clear cheques before despatch. If your order is urgent for a gift, please tell us on the order form and we will do our best to help.

We also have leatherette cases available for the Uncirculated version, priced £2 each if ordered with coins.
