2016 Gold Sovereigns - St. George & Dragon Design
For some unknown reason The Royal Mint delayed the release of the uncirculated / bullion coin until January 2016 - we think this is a retrogressive step as in recent years they have been available in November.
We received our first delivery on 14th January, 2016.

Uncirculated Sovereign - New Fifth Portrait
On 2nd March, 2015, The Royal Mint unveiled a new portrait of the Queen. The fifth portrait has been designed by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark. However, this is the first time the fifth portrait has been seen on an uncirculated / bullion sovereign*.
The reverse features the famous St George and the dragon design, by Benedetto Pistrucci.
We have always been able to offer the proof sovereign at significant discount to The Royal Mint (and many of our competitors) as we are happy to pass any trade discount on to our customers. In recent years the trade discount has been reduced and The Royal Mint's selling terms are becoming more and more one-sided.

Proof Sovereign - New Obverse
The proof version of the 2016 sovereign features a different obverse portrait to mark the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The coins show the James Butler portrait of the Queen, as used on the 2015 Longest Reigning Monarch coins.

Buying from Chard
Not only can we guarantee that our prices for both the proof and bullion coins are cheaper than The Royal Mint's but buying from us you also get the benefit of buying from expert professional numismatists who have been in the business for nearly 50 years. While we appreciate the Royal Mint have existed for longer, we know more about sovereigns and half sovereigns than they do!
*Although the fifth portrait was revealed in 2015 and can be seen on some 2015 proof sovereigns, the 2015 uncirculated sovereigns feature Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait design on the obverse.
The 2016 uncirculated sovereign is therefore the first uncirculated sovereign to depict the fifth effigy.
