Grading Gold Sovereigns
Unc - Uncirculated
Examples of the coin grade Unc - Uncirculated, with photographs.
Unc. - Uncirculated
We show photographs of the obverse and reverse sides of an 1980 Elizabeth II sovereign. We graded this coin Unc (Uncirculated).
It is possible to see a number of very slight scuff marks, particularly on the obverse. The coin we photographed had evidence of fingerprints or other greasy residue on it, Despite this, the coin is clearly Uncirculated, but not good enough to make FDC.
It would still be possible for a coin to have more noticeable scuffs and bagmarks, and still be classed as Uncirculated.
Without the slighly spotted or mottled appearance, we might have called it BU (Brilliant Uncirculated).
