Grading Gold Sovereigns
VG - Very Good
Example of the coin grade VG - Very Good (V.G.), with photographs.
Very Good- V.G.
We show photographs of the obverse and reverse sides of an 1844 Victoria shield sovereign. We grade this coin as good fair. but in American grading, this would be VG.
A VG coin will show some considerable wear on the raised surfaces having had many years in circulation, but still have all major desing features, lettering, and date clearly visible.
American Grading
We did not originally intend to include a page for V.G. (Very Good), as it is an American grading term, and we, being British, use British grading terms. The prime reason, we have added it, is because we happened to have this pair of photographs, which exemplify VG. In British grading, this coin would be Good Fair, although we suspect on eBay it would be called Fine (or better).
