1914 - 2014
During July 2014 we noticed that The Royal Mint are selling 1914 sovereigns on their website to tie in with the 100th anniversary of World War One for £350. We are sure that theirs will come in a nice presentation box with an accompanying booklet or certificate but what we are unsure of is the grade and availability.
The Royal Mint website states that they are "sourced to order" and that they are "Finished to Brilliant Uncirculated standard" - we wonder whether they mean originally or that they are still BU?
From past experience we know that the historic sovereigns The Royal Mint supply are not usually of the highest grade - not surprising really when they are more of a marketing company than a coin dealer - so we would be interested to see whether their BU coins really are BU.
Canada Mint Sovereigns
All dates of sovereigns from the Ottawa Canada mint are scarcer than other mintmarks, but for some years they are rare or very rare. We have a Canada Mint page with more information about them.
